If you want to see a detailed demonstration of the Make It Equal activities, watch this 15 minute video.
The four levels of Make It Equal activities can be used to provide instruction and practice for the kindergarten through third grade Operations and Algebraic Thinking Standards. The activities can be differentiated to meet many levels of learners. In kindergarten, first, and second grade, students can explore addition and subtraction facts to 20 visually with dot groups and then move to symbolic representations with numerals. At a higher level, students can include basic multiplication and division facts. The activities use the concept of equal representations/equations using the equal sign.
These activities can be done with an entire class, small groups, or individuals. Teachers, paraprofessionals, classroom volunteers, and parents can use these activities while working with children. The video gives clear, easy-to-understand directions on how to introduce these activities.
The Make It Equal activities are divided into four levels with many lessons in each level. Each level can be purchased individually. Depending on the level of students, teachers can choose to spend as little or as much time as needed on each lesson/level:
